Beam types
Every detail has a reason
KONTIO uses exclusively Nordic/Arctic pine and offers several beam profiles as well as three types of corner joints.

Nordic/Arctic pine — the ideal material for a solid-timber home
KONTIO uses exclusively fine-grained Nordic pine for its production. This Arctic pine species needs the right geo-climatic conditions, including an unpolluted environment, to grow with high quality. Northern Finland, home to KONTIO's production, offers these geological and climatic conditions better than any other region in the world.
The harsh conditions of freezing winters and short Nordic summers shape the slow-growing Nordic/Arctic pine, giving it tight, fine growth rings. Thanks to this characteristic, Nordic/Arctic pine has unique properties that make it the toughest and most durable building material for log houses.

Choose the best option for your home!
KONTIO offers a very wide range — you can choose from several squared-beam and round-log profiles. The choice of beam is largely defined by how you want your home to look, what it's for, and the local climate. Different beam types create an individual look, atmosphere and style for your home. All KONTIO beams are highly durable structural materials. A well-maintained log home can last for generations.
The closed corner joint, a KONTIO structural trademark
The airtightness of a squared-beam or round-log home is guaranteed by KONTIO's closed, tongue-and-groove corner joints. The tongue-and-groove corner solution, together with even insulation between the log courses, ensures the beam wall has excellent thermal insulation properties.

High logs (275 mm)
The edges are only slightly chamfered, giving the beam a clean look that suits both modern and traditional architecture. High laminated logs and SmartLog™ are made in thicknesses of 275, 205 and 135 mm.

Low logs (170 mm)
A classic beam with clearly chamfered edges – a typical choice for cabins, saunas and garden buildings.

Corner joints
The corner is the most visible part of a log home and largely defines its character. For modern architecture there is the Neo Corner joint without overhang, developed for timber buildings in urban settings. For a more traditional look, choose Long Corner with overhang or the dovetailed Eagle Corner.
