We manufacture all our logs in our own factory from exceptionally durable Nordic pine with a high density of growth rings.

The spruce version of the SmartLog™ log offers exactly the same structure and properties as the classic SmartLog: it is completely non-settling, patented and tested by VTT. The only difference is the visible layer, made of naturally light Nordic spruce with smaller knots. The load-bearing core of the log is still durable Nordic pine. The result is a modern, light-filled interior and exterior with perfect structural reliability that the whole project of your home can rest on.
SmartLog™ by KONTIO is truly non-settling. How did we achieve that? By turning the middle lamellas inside the log to a vertical orientation. With traditional glulam logs, which have no vertical lamellas, wood settling cannot be fully eliminated, however well the timber is dried. SmartLog™ is therefore 100% dimensionally stable in all circumstances — right from the assembly stage.
The architecture of the SmartLog™ log is so innovative that we have protected it with a registered industrial design. A special insulating seal runs along the non-settling vertical lamella, ensuring maximum tightness (protection against wind and heat loss). The load-bearing vertical lamella sits close to the surface of the log, guaranteeing unrivalled stiffness and load-bearing capacity for the whole wall.
The logs are firmly anchored to each other with concealed screws. The metal fasteners serve only for precise fixing — the non-settling behaviour and load-bearing capacity come from the ingenious geometry of the wood itself: cross-laminated lamellas.
The non-settling structure opens the door to modern architecture without limits. Solid wood can be joined to other structures without settling gaps, giving us complete freedom in designing both the interior and the exterior. Unsightly cover strips and threaded adjustment rods are a thing of the past — all that remains is clean, functional minimalism. Different floor heights, unusual roofs and huge glass walls are no problem. Visually, the house looks like a premium classic log home with beautifully exposed wood inside and out, yet it behaves like a modern monolith.
The load-bearing capacity and stiffness of the SmartLog™ structure were independently tested in 2017 by the VTT Technical Research Centre (one of Europe’s leading research institutions), with excellent results. The strict tests of the joints’ airtightness and watertightness turned out just as brilliantly. KONTIO SmartLog™ is demonstrably the safest, highest-quality choice for building a premium non-settling timber home on today’s market.

Delivery of your home is lightning fast — we can deliver the material from Finland within 3 months. Given the premium nature of the technology, we recommend complete authorised KONTIO assembly, although thanks to the perfect milling precision any experienced team could handle the build. Today, 95% of the log homes we deliver are built exclusively from SmartLog™.
Thanks to its unique properties, SmartLog™ suits projects of every scale — from luxury weekend homes to large commercial and public projects. We manufacture it in several dimensions to meet the structural and aesthetic demands of any building. In large buildings, the exterior walls are most often made from the premium, extremely solid 275×275 mm profile with phenomenal load-bearing capacity. For interior partitions, we use more elegant, slimmer profiles of the same technology.
